School-Business Partnership
ER Taylor began a Healthy Start Program several years ago. When funding expired, a private funder from a local business stepped in to not only keep the program afloat, but to expand services to children and families. ER Taylor evolved from an underperforming inner city school, to a "blue-ribbon" school, one of two in San Francisco Unified School District, with standardized test scores normally associated with high-income communities.

Oakland Military Institute
Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy was founded by Governor Jerry Brown ten years ago to offer Oakland students an avenue to college. OMI sends over ninety percent of students to a four-year college or university and wanted to get the word out to prospective students and potential donors: OMI offers a private school education at a public school.

Mission High School Skate Club

Mission High School, with the support of the San Francisco Wellness Initiative, "builds relationships with students to keep them engaged and connected to the school so that they can achieve." The Skate Club at Mission High School is an important part of the school's wellness program and an interesting reflection of San Francisco's rich diversity.

Even as the school showed tremendous growth and began to flourish, enrollment numbers waned. Then, all neighborhood families received a DVD detailing the kind of school VVMS had become. In the Spring of 2011, applications fro VVMS, were up four-fold. Enrollment is expected to increase in the Fall of 2011.
