Horace Mann Academic Middle School
Horace Mann Academic Middle School reflects the rich cultural diversity of San Francisco's Mission District. This project is an overview of the school: student voices, staff and community members portraying the positive attributes of a school that has had its own challenges. The video offers a vision of where the school might go in the coming years.

Burlingame Education Foundation
The Burlingame Community for Education Foundation (BCE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the educational opportunities of the children of the Burlingame School District – kindergarten through eighth grade.
Since 1981, Burlingame parents, teachers, administrators, businesses and community members have supported BCE and our schools by raising money for programs that are no longer paid for by the state through tax dollars.

Math; Number Talk
A Number Talk is a brief, ongoing routine that offers students practice with computation. The expectation is that students will develop computational fluency as they use number relationships and structures to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Number Talks should be short sessions, five to fifteen minutes in length. The primary goal of Number Talks is computational fluency.

Explicit Direct Instruction
Adelante Spanish Immersion School in Redwood City, California was about to go into Program Improvement. At a certain point Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) was adopted as a school-wide instructional approach. Three years later, the school has been recognized as a "Distinguished School" site.
EDI is an approach where students are active participants in the learning process. EDI is developmentally appropriate instruction tailored to students' learning needs.

Guided Language Acquisition Design; GLAD Instruction
Project GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) is an effective instructional model for teaching English Language Development (ELD). The Project GLAD model is based on the extensive research-base of second language acquisition, brain research, and effective literacy practices for English learners. GLAD is a standards-based ELD instructional model that promotes high levels of academic language and academic achievement for students at all levels of English proficiency.
